Trail Facts

• The Chippewa River Trail is now 30 miles in length from downtown Eau Claire to the city of Durand. The portion of the trail that is within the City of Eau Claire is free of charge to use. 
• The trail is 10 feet wide and is surfaced with asphalt pavement from the start of the trail in downtown Eau Claire for a total of 11 miles. This surface can be used for rollerblading. The remainder of the trail is surfaced with asphalt emulsion for a smooth riding surface. All of the bridges are decked and railed for riding safety.
• The Chippewa River Trail connects with the 14.5 mile Red Cedar Trail for a total recreational trail system of 37.5 miles between Eau Claire and Menomonie.
• Trail passes for biking and in-line skating are required for all persons 16 years and older on the state portion of the Chippewa River Trail. For trail pass pricing information please visit Chippewa River State Trail (WIDNR).
  
• State trail passes are available at the following retail locations: in Eau Claire at Anybody’s Bike shop, Eau Claire Bike & Sport, Holiday Gas Station on Water Street, Riverside Bike & Skate, Scheels All Sports, and the Eau Claire Area Convention and Visitors Bureau; in Caryville at Luer’s Grocery. There are self-registration boxes located on the trail at Short Street and in Caryville. On weekends, the Friends of the Chippewa River State Trail frequently sell passes at the beginning of the state portion of the trail on Short Street.
• Convenient access points are in Eau Claire, the Highway 85 Rest Area, Caryville, Meridean, and Durand.

• The Chippewa River Trail is available year around for outdoor activities. During spring, summer and fall you may enjoy walking, biking and in-line skating on the trail. In winter, you may use the trail for walking, cross-county skiing (ungroomed) and snowmobiling (in designated areas). Groups wishing to schedule a special event on the Chippewa River Trail should contact the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
