Construction began on the bridge over Half Moon Lake and the causeway approach to the bridge in July 2017 for this award-winning project. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in November 2017 to celebrate the opening of the causeway.

The design consultant firm hired for the project was Ayres Associates. City Engineering staff worked with engineers from Ayres to incorporate feedback received from multiple public open houses into the design. Design components included multi-use trails along both sides of the causeway, ADA accessible fishing piers, decorative lighting, boulevards, bike lanes & additional recreational enhancements.
