The City of Eau Claire plans for its growth within a Sewer Service Area which is approved by the Department of Natural Resources.  This area is anticipated to see pressure for urban development over the next 20 years based on population projections and land use needs.  Decisions to develop property and annex into the City are made by property owners.  The City prepares these plans with input from the surrounding Towns so that property owners seeking development may understand the expectations of the City in the development of these properties.

The City of Eau Claire Sewer Service Area Plans are drafted in five parts to represent the long-term growth of the City anticipated for the five surrounding Town areas.  These plans focus on the transition from current use to an urban use, while respecting remaining land uses in each Town.  The drafting of these plans was completed with input from each of the five Towns and the City continues to welcome input on these draft plans.  The plans will only be applied to land where the property owners decide to petition the City for annexation.  Property that remains in the Town will continue to be under the Town and Counties plans.
