Keeping Our Area Waters Clean

How Can I Help?

Adopt a Storm Drain

The City conducts sweeping of streets and downtown sidewalks, which helps our local rivers by reducing the amount of pollutants entering the water.

You can help too! Adopt a storm drain near your home and keep it clear of debris or check out other ways to help in Rain to Rivers' "Top 10 things you can do to keep area waters clean..."

Rain to Rivers...Wise Choices for Cleaner Waters

Rain to Rivers is an education campaign sponsored by the Chippewa Valley Storm Water Forum. It's aimed at protecting and improving the quality of our local lakes, streams, rivers & wetlands.

Road Salt & Its Effects

Keeping the streets and sidewalks clear during Wisconsin's inclement weather is a definite priority, and the use of road salt is an important resource to keep our community safe. This salt, or sodium chloride, is carried to local freshwater streams and lakes, however, during rain events and spring snowmelt and permanently contaminates freshwater. Learn more about the impacts of over-salting and how you can be a part of the salt reduction revolution at www.wisaltwise.com.

Dam Safety

Dams are an important part of our environment. They can trap hazardous materials and capture sediment that could contain toxic and harmful substances. If dams weren't in place, waste of river water could occur along with a dwindling supply or irrigation water and major flooding. Visit Dams | Wisconsin DNR to learn more about dam safety and why it's important.

Street Sweeping

Street sweeping is important so debris from the roadside or gutters doesn't end up in our storm drains. Learn more about the City of Eau Claire's Street Sweeping operations by visiting Street and Fleet, which is a division of the Community Services Department.
