In April of 2021 the Eau Claire City Council approved an ordinance allowing private companies to offer rental e-scooters in Eau Claire.

Beginning Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Bird, a micro-mobility company, will begin introducing their shared scooters to the city of Eau Claire.

Users download the Bird app, create an account, and rent a scooter - billing continues until the ride is officially ended by the user.

What are the rules?

The Bird app instructs users how to ride, where to ride, and safety tips before use.

Users shall yield to pedestrians;

When riding on-street, users must comply with all traffic regulations, as drivers would
in a motor vehicle;

Bird scooters are geo-fenced with GIS coordinates. Bird scooters must be parked at designated parking locations.  These locations are marked with a "P" on the map found in the Bird app.  Non-compliant parking may result in fines.

Sidewalk riding is NOT ALLOWED in the city of Eau Claire Pedestrian Zones and will be enforced. Violating the Pedestrian Zone ordinance carries a potential $213.10 fine.  Pedestrian Zones are located in downtown Eau Claire and other commercial districts.  These Walk Your Wheels zones are marked with the following Pedestrian Zone signs.

Walk your wheels

 Bird Scooters have a sticker reminding users that riding on sidewalks is not permitted.
