General Information
A steering committee comprised of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) community members, with the assistance of a City of Eau Claire staff liaison and oversight by City Council, will explore how the City of Eau Claire can be a more welcoming, diverse, and inclusive community. Members of the Eau Claire area community are encouraged to apply.
This is a one-time study being funded by ARPA, with the potential for the Steering Committee continuing as a City of Eau Claire Commission. Estimated time commitment is 6—9 months or until the project is completed. The committee may continue to meet uncompensated after the conclusion of the formal proceedings.
This project will address historical gaps tied to demographics that have been aggravated by the pandemic, including disparate life outcomes in housing, education, food security, and criminal justice.
The committee members will complete the following tasks:
• Big Picture Project: How can the City of Eau Claire be a more welcoming, inclusive and dynamic place to live for BIPOC communities?
• Design focus groups, if needed, to explore other related issues
• Develop a plan to be approved by city Council for use of Phase III ARPA project funding
• Committee Members will receive a one-time stipend of $1500 if they attend and actively participate in 80% of formal committee meetings
• Participate in EDI strategic plan development with the City of Eau Claire
• At the conclusion of the Steering Committee’s work, produce and submit to the Eau Claire City Council members the following:
o A summary report that includes
▪ Data, information, resources, and feedback gathered throughout the exploratory phase of the Steering Committee
▪ Recommendations on action steps and stakeholders to meet the goal of the Steering Committee
▪ A plan for Phase III project funding
