Volunteer Training

Training Information for Volunteers

Training ensures that volunteers achieve their goals for joining, and that we achieve the mission and intent of the Medical Reserve Corps Unit. Training requirements are outlined during orientation and in the volunteer handbook each team member will receive upon completion of the application process.

Minimum Required Training

  • MRC Orientation.  An overview of the Eau Claire County MRC Unit will be provided.  During the orientation, we will also cover the fundamentals of command and control, assignment via job action sheets, reporting, and communication during public health emergencies or events.
Other Recommended Training:  Many of the courses listed below can be taken on-line for free at the links noted.   We suggest that volunteers print out the test first, so that you have it handy to mark answers as you find them. This is perfectly "legal" as it is an "open-book" test.  If you complete any of the training listed below, please provide a copy of the certificate of completion of each course to the MRC Unit Volunteer Coordinator.
  • IS-22 - The "Are You Ready? An In-Depth Guide to Citizen Preparedness" (or equivalent) has been designed to help the citizens learn how to protect themselves and their families against all types of hazards.  The focus of the content is on how to develop, practice, and maintain emergency plans that reflect what must be done before, during, and after a disaster to protect people and their property. Also included is information on how to assemble a disaster supplies kit that contains the food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity for individuals and their families to survive.  Click Here to enroll and take this course.
  • IS-100.a Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS) – ICS-100a, Introduction to the Incident Command System, introduces the Incident Command System and provides the foundation for higher level ICS training.  This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System.  It also explains the relationship between ICS and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).  Click Here to enroll and take this course.
  • IS-200.a ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents – ICS-200a is designed to enable personnel to operate efficiently during an incident or event within the Incident Command System (ICS).  ICS-200 provides training on and resources for personnel who are likely to assume a supervisory position within ICS.  Click Here to enroll and take this course.
  • IS-317 Introduction to Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) - The CERT class is typically offered in a classroom setting with extensive hands on practice. The online course provides an overview of CERT. If the volunteer team member completes all the recommended tasks outlined in the training, the goal of CERT training will have been met.  CERT classes will be offered through the Eau Claire County MRC Unit or Eau Claire County Emergency Management on a regular ongoing basis and all MRC Team members are encouraged to attend one. Click here to enroll and take this course.
* If you have taken such classes, try to locate a copy of a certificate, transcript, employee record, or any other item that documents that  you've taken the class(es) and send a copy to our Volunteer Coordinator.
