K-9 Officer

Print

The Police Department has one K-9 Officer and one dog. The Canine is cross-trained to do patrol work and drug detection. Uses for K-9 include tracking of individuals, building searches, and drug detection. The K-9 lives with the officer/handler and they work and train together regularly.

The officer and K-9 also do presentations for civic groups and schools as time permits. Requests should be directed to the Deputy Chief of Patrol at (715) 839-6060.

K-9 Fund
The K-9 fund was started in 2006 as the Eau Claire Police Department had a need for additional K-9 dogs, however, no traditional government funding options had been available to expand this program.

The Eau Claire Police Department has maintained one K-9 unit since 1990. Since that time, we have found that the K-9 unit is an extremely important asset to our department as he assists patrol officers with dangerous tasks thereby increasing both police and officer safety. K-9 dogs are very well trained and very well controlled by their handler.
