Effective February 1, 2013, in response to an increasing number of artistic performances within the city involving the use of fire, the City Council approved the creation of a city ordinance (16.32.017) establishing a permitting process for these events. Fire art refers to performances or demonstrations such as fire breathing, fire spinning, fire juggling, fire dancing, etc., but does not include pyrotechnics and flame effects.
The business owner, event coordinator, and fire performer are responsible for all aspects of fire and life safety. Failure to follow the minimum requirements set forth in the ordinance will result in immediate termination and/or issuing of citation(s).
